Sermon Topic: The
Holy Spirit
Sermon Notes:
When
we talk of the Holy Spirit there are people in the body of Christ, but don’t
understand the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has infinite power – can do all
things. The Holy Spirit reveals things to us. He is everywhere at the same time
and he has power. We are saved and we receive the Holy Spirit.
How
are we lead by the Holy Spirit? I don’t make decision on my own that go against
the spirit. We reject the truth that could help us. The Holy Spirit has to
reveal the truth. 1 Corinthians 2:9 – The Holy Spirit reveals what God wants
for you. The flesh really doesn’t want to know the truth that’s why we must
walk in the spirit. If you don’t walk in the spirit you will sin.
We
have this power in us so we don’t have to do those things that are not pleasing
to God. God said he won’t leave us comfortless. There is no reason for a born
again believer to say they didn’t know something. They don’t listen to the Holy
Spirit.
John
16:12 – Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit operates in
ways like the father. I don’t allow my situations to determine if I’m on the
right path or not. The Holy Spirit will guide you. It bares witness with our
spirit.
Romans
8:16 – when our spirit and the Holy Spirit are in agreement then we can have
peace in our lives. We are spirit beings living in this body. When this body
cease to exist that’s not the end. The spirit goes back to the father. We will
have a new body when this life is over. We shall be like him. We shall see him
as he is.
Guidance
comes through our spirit. Don’t allow your senses to lead you because are led
by the spirit. (Feel, taste, touch, and see) can’t be led by these senses.
There
are times when we don’t know why but we are to respond in the positive. Lord, I
don’t know what’s going on here but I will do what you want us to do.
We
have to be willing to be lead by the spirit. It’s always for our good.
1
Thessalonians 5:23 – May you be set apart and preserved for the coming of
Christ.
Being
born again doesn’t take care of the flesh. Learn to listen and hear his voice.
Sometimes we have to turn off distractions to focus on the spirit. He’s the
center of your hearts so he can hear. All old stuff passes away.
Spiritual
things become more real to us the more we focus on God. We must follow and
imitate Jesus to hear his voice.
If
I’m following based on my emotion – I hear my emotion.
Psalm
37:23 – the steps of the good man are ordered by the Lord. God wants to lead
us.
We
grow closer to God and the things of God so that the old things pass away. The
former thigns are no longer a part of my life.
Psalm
32:8 – He will teach us because we don’t know the way. We were born in sin,
shaped in iniquity.
We
can’t just take a churchy approach to the way we should go. The way we should
go, goes beyond the church building, he’s called us to do so much more.
If
you study the word daily watch what happens to your flesh when you stop reading
scripture.
Colossians
3:15 – Let the peace of God rule in your heart.
We
must let the spirit of peace be in control of our lives. The spirit gives what
you desired from God. Galatians 5:16 – walk in the spirit so you don’t fulfill
the lust of the flesh. Flesh always leads us away from God. It only understands
what it sees and feels.
Right
actions come from right thinking.
Colossians 3:2 – Seek those things above not on things of the earth. You must ask yourself if God would be pleased with what you are doing.
Does this require courage, faith and does it line up with the word of God? No matter how it’s presented, God can’t be in this.
We
must ask these questions daily!
For
every action there is a reaction and a consequence. Anything that’s not of God
is sin. Our Christian character comes from within.
When
the spirit leads us – everything we do aligns with God’s word. It is pleasing
to God; you’re on the right track. Do what pleases God. Satan will take truth
and turn it to half truths. Satan knows that if you get the perfect understanding
of the spirit, nothing will stop you.
Never
refer to the Holy Spirit as an it. Our fellowship isn’t with something it is
with someone.
Get
your scriptures and read the passages that relate to your spirit.
Pray that God will open your eyes so that you can understand what you’re reading. He teaches us. He teaches Pastors what to say and when to say it. The spirit gets everyone on the same page.
The
Spirit teaches us how to respond to persecution. Luke 12:11 -12 – take no
thought of what you should say. The Holy Ghost will teach you what to say.
The
thought will come but don’t take the thought. When we’re standing on the word –
we will hear his voice. When you need to respond – the Holy Spirit will teach
you what to say at that moment.
When
we walk in the spirit we can endure persecution. Don’t be surprised if the
world hates you, it hated him first.
You
can tell when the spirit begins to move, there is no longer hurt, sickness, you
feel an overwhelming fullness and the tears flow.
We
know that he’s working it out for our good.
Psalm
125:5 – I’m waiting to be led by God.
Get
rid of habits that make you backslide.
