Sermon Notes:
Romans
12:1-2 – Be not conformed to this world – be transformed. Paul is speaking of
our responsibilities to God. We have responsibilities as Christians and
believers.
We
have to change.
If
we are going to grow up spiritually we must make changes. Our greatest goal
should be knowing God. Our greatest concern is obedience. There are sin traps
to watch for.
Sin
Trap – anything that leads us away from God.
When
we look at today it’s the first day of the rest of your life. When we’ve been
predestined to operate at the maximum effaces we can’t claim that there’s
something we can’t do.
Romans
8:5 – They that are after the flesh can’t seek the things of the spirit. Spiritual
things are foreign to them.
If
you’re witnessing to someone don’t bombard them with a lot of scripture. You
meet the person right where they are.
The
spirit reveals those things that are freely given to us by God. We don’t need
to get anything else.
Your
actions are the result of your thinking. As a man thinketh so is he. The mind
of a believer must be shaped by God. Since the goal is to know God our mind
must be renewed in order to see the word of God.
We
don’t need anything else.
The
Holy spirit has promises but unless he’s operating in us we don’t know the ways
of God. If we aren’t led by the spirit we won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Everyday
the flesh lusts for something contrary to the spirit.
When
God saved us he didn’t save the flesh. The mind must be renewed. 1 Peter 2:2 –
a baby eats all day. You should be hungry for the word as a baby is hungry for
food. The only way to grow is to live by God’s word.
Hebrews
4:12 – the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edge
sword. The word of God knows what you’re thinking. You have to watch your
words. You must have a willingness to submit to God. Psalm 119:104 – I hate
every false way. You have to have an awareness to face failure. We wont bat
1,000 everyday. Some days we will mess up. We’re not perfect.
There
may be some days where others can’t tell we’re a Christian.
James
5:16 – If you fail at something don’t get down on yourself. We should be able
to share our shortcoming with others without it going any further.
Psalm
129:23 – search me oh Lord when the temptations come we must ask God to search
us. The Lord knows our thoughts from far away. Be willing to change. 1 Peter
2:1 – it’s there but I must lay aside all sins. We all have sinned and fallen
short.
Ephesians
4:31 – there are some things that hold weight but aren’t sinful.
Be
willing to change. Ephesians 4:25 – don’t let lying be a convenient tool you
use. Some people would rather hear the truth than a lie.
You
change must be followed by dedication.
If
you got the faith to believe all things are possible. You will have to suffer
temporary discomfort to fulfill the blessings in your life.
