Sermon Topic: Set Your Affections
Sermon Notes:
Colossians
3:2 – set your affections on things above. When you try to do it yourself, God
won’t move. You have to leave it alone and God will fix it. If you be still and
know that he is God, God will deliver just as he promised.
Where
is the glue to reassemble that which has fallen apart? We have to know God. We
must have a relationship with God.
Because
if I don’t know him, I can’t make contact with him. All we need is faith the
size of a mustard seed and mountains will move out of your way. When we look at
community we see wayward children, divorces and drug addition. The world is
stained with sin.
We
must change the way we look at sin.
The
wages of sin is death.
We
must choose the wages of the gift. Choose life that ye may live. Now is the
time. Since you are alive – this is the best time to be alive. What do you
want?
Psalm
15:1-2 – 1 Thessalonians 4:1 – the world is strained with sin. This stain we
can’t “shout it out”. There are people in the body of Christ who are stained
with sin.
They
shout and worship but can’t shout sin out. You must repent, confess and be
forgiven.
It takes the Lord to live free of sin.
Colossians
3:1-2- Set your affections above. A lot of times we get in trouble due to a
broken focus. The enemy is trying to
control your mind.
Change
your focus – focus on the place where Christ sits. When we focus on heavenly
things – we will obey on earth.
Proverbs
15:24 – seek what’s above. Focus on Christ and the kingdom.
Galatians
2:20 – Christ lives in me. It shouldn’t be hard to do right. Before Adam
sinned. God had the answer in place.
Before
we were saved we were in the dark. We simply existed. You have the Holy Spirit
in you. You have the power in you but you don’t always yield to the spirit.
By
your words you are justified and by your words you will be condemned.
(Galatians 4:7) Everything Jesus has you have.
Galatians
2:20 – the old me is dead. He freely gave so we could live.
You are an overcomer.
Ask
and it shall be given.
