Sermon Topic: Salvation
Part 2
Soteria is the Greek word for Salvation; it means
deliverance, healing, peace, prosperity and joy.
2 Timothy 4:18 –
We look at the transformation of a person’s nature through repentance and faith
in the finished work of Christ. Not obtained by any human effort.
Romans 4:1 – The
faith of Abraham. He was humanly speaking, the founder of the Jewish nation. He
believed God and God counted his righteousness because of his faith.
Salvation is a change of status before God, by faith.
Romans 5:1 -2 –
Being justified with faith we have peace with God.
We have peace of God, peace with God and peace of God on
earth.
You who were sometimes far off in relationship not distance.
All through the New Testament you find out about salvation. Colossians 1:21 – 23 We were enemies of
God. Romans 3:23 – All have sinned
and come short of God’s glory. Psalm
51:5 – When Adam sinned in the garden. The sin was passed on to all mankind.
1 Corinthians 10:22
– All are made alive. Christ died to pay a debt that he did not owe to free us
from a debt we could not pay. 1 John
4:10 –
By grace you’re saved. It is the free gift, unmerited favor
by God. We have nothing to brag about.
Baptism is the result of receiving Christ beforehand.
Speaking in tongues is the result of being saved but not a
requirement. Speaking in tongues is a gift.
Your language changes even in church if the spirit doesn’t
lead.
Paul said I keep under my body. Because it wants to do it’s
own thing. Temptation comes daily, don’t yield to it.
Galatians 2:20 –
Crucified with Christ. He lives in me. When we are saved – we are saved with a
purpose. Each of us has a gift we are all able to do something in the church.
Purpose to live a holy lifestyle. When I’m saved I don’t
have to announce it or tote a bible around.
1 John 2:6 – He
that abideth in him – walk as he walked. We have the power to do. The saved
obey God’s word.
We obey the laws of the land but we must also obey God’s
law. Forsake not the assemblies of yourself. Worship is an important part of
Church.
1 John 2:3-4 – If
we keep his commandments we love him. They’re not hard to keep. We must delight
in God’s word. Psalm 119:43 – Our life with Christ is a relationship. We must
participate to increase the bond. You have to work on it.
Our lifestyles should be Christ-like.
Titus 2:11-13 –No one knows when he’s coming so we must live soberly, righteously and Godly in this present world.
Matthew 22 – Love
God and love your neighbors as yourself. If you keep those two commandments,
you don’t have to worry about anything else.
The saved person is obedient to the word of God.
Once we finish the topic on salvation and characteristics of
the saved. There are benefits to being obedient to God’s word. Don’t let it
enter your mind that you did something to be saved. You only followed/yielded
to something that was already in place.
1 Peter 2 – We
were saved before the foundation of the world. We are a chosen generation a
royal priesthood.
Now that we are God’s people, there are some things that we
shouldn’t do. You don’t lose everything overnight. Don’t beat yourself up when
you don’t reach the level you think you should be. It’s a process.
Things will begin to drop out of your life.
We are the light of the world. Tell someone about God.
