The Power of the Tongue

Sermon Topic: The Power of the Tongue

Foundational Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 – Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Sermon Notes:

We don’t trust in man, we put our trust in the living God. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. It depends on what you say whether you speak life or death. Put a watch over my mouth.
Words – once they’re out there you can’t get them back. The damage has been done. You can’t retrieve what you have said.

Faith is connected to it because what you say about yourself and your circumstances. You can’t win the victory without speaking faith-filled words. We must also remember that everything we need, we already have.

Proverbs 15:2 – a wise person knows what to say, when to say it and how it should be said. We give life to things. If I have a need in my life and I begin to say that I won’t get relief, I give life to the need; not the solution.

If I’m sick and I keep saying, “I won’t get well”, I’m giving life to the illness.

Psalm 103 – He sent his word and healed. When we speak positive about our circumstance - our situation changes. Make sure what you say aligns with God’s word. The enemy can’t read your mind, but he hears what you say. God will not counter what we say, if we say something wrong, God will stand by his words. By your words you shall be justified, by your words you will be condemned.

Don’t agree with others about negativity. God can’t step in and say, “don’t say that”, he allows it to happen.

Proverbs 11:9 – We must discipline our speech. The power of speech brings life to others.

Proverbs 10:31-32 – The lips of the righteous availeth much. We know what to say and what not to say. Don’t let the enemy tempt you to say something negative. You destroy people by the things you say. Isaiah 50:4 -  we must build each other up not tear each other down. We have to guard our speech.

Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupt communication leave your mouth. If it’s not good – you shouldn’t say it. We don’t involve ourselves in the negativity concerning it. There’s a time for everything and a season. Don’t be tempted into saying something when you should be silent.

There’s a time for you to be silent.

Proverbs 11:12 – the enemy comes to you and instigates the situation.

Romans 10:17 – Spoken witness bringeth about faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. We study and mediate on God’s word. We prepare our temple to become greater for God. Be ready always. Always be ready to give someone an answer about Jesus.

Speech demonstrates our character.

The way we speak someone should know that we are a child of God. I can do ALL things through Christ. We have this not only in ourselves but in others.

We have to get to the place that we are only saying what’s pleasing to God.
Colossians 3:8 – We must put off filthy communications, anger, malice and blasphemy. Put off the former man and put on the new man.

Lying and filthy communication is in the old man. The unsaved man lies to others. Our speech should be kind and gentle.

The fallen human nature causes division. Evil speech comes from a corrupt heart. Mathew 12:33 – the tree is known by its fruit. Either let your speech be the character of a righteous person or that of the former man.

Mathew 12:34 – Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. It’s in your heart; it began as a thought and then the thought becomes words. Evil speech is a feature of a corrupt society.

Micah 6:12-13 – Rich men are full of violence and lies, boasting, ridicule and insult. We don’t get into that.  God is still God.

The author and finisher of our faith

Sermon Topic: The author and finisher of our faith

Foundational Scripture:  Hebrews 12:1-2 – Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.

We’ve been going through much over the course of a year, but the Lord reminds us that the best is yet to come. Have you ever asked yourself, why am I here at this place, at this time or what am I supposed to doing?

There is nothing more tragic than to be alive and not enjoy it. Life is a journey with a beginning, middle and an end. We view things based on the way we are. We must understand who we are in the Kingdom. All of us have set points in our lives. You will go far but no further based on these set points. Your comfort level is lower than what God has intended for you.

Never let your circumstances prophesize to you. You must cooperate with the Lord. I’m working with God. You need to maximize your potential. You can’t talk about potential apart from God.

Ephesians 2:10 – We are his workmanship – Before we were created God had plans for us.

You are not a mistake. You were planned for by God. 2 Corinthians 4:7 – treasure in earthen vessels. You’re capable of more than others could dream. It’s inside of you. Stir up the girt – it’s there.

God created us with a specific purpose. You have a specific assignment. You must find out what you’re gifted for. Your purpose will protect you from being busy for no reason.

Knowledge without movement is wasted.

Jeremiah 29:11 – I’m so glad that God has a plan for us all. It cancels out doubt and those who tell you what the Lord tells them to tell you. You were not created to just be normal.

1 Corinthians 9:27 – You have to control your flesh. When you rose this morning you wanted to come to church but the carnal part of you didn’t want to come. You have to discipline your mind, body and speech.

To fulfill your purpose you must be where God wants you to be. Genesis 12:1 – Get out of your comfort zone.

Some people you need to get out from them. There are some relatives that we  must keep a distance from.

Shake the dust off your feet. Out of all the things you deal with you have to deal with yourself first. That’s why God tells us not to judge. Examine yourself – prove your own self. Power for us is the ability to walk away from what you desire to protect what you love. Your past is the only thing that stops you – that’s why we’re not to remember the former things.

Don’t look at where you are. Look at where you can be with God.

Focus on your future and expect the end that he promised.

I have abundant life, peace and joy.

Ephesians 1:3 – we’re already blessed. You have to see it spiritually before it happens. Don’t say I can’t afford something. You have potential and power. You can afford it.

You can’t receive until you give. It’s a learning process.

Trust in him.

You have a right to prosper. It’s your way of thinking that changes it. He gave us the keys to the Kingdom.

Believe it when you pray.

God takes pleasure in the hopes of his people.

John 15:1 – take the seed and put it on your circumstance. Say what God says. There is a word for everything you’re going through. Your assignment is to get out of your comfort zone.

When are you going to stop?

Sermon Topic: When are you going to stop?

Romans 6:1 – we talk about the fruit of the spirit but not about sin. Sin is the reality that the saints of God can’t allow to dominate our lives. What are the transgressions? 1 John 3:4 – We don’t see God, but he’s everywhere. Sin was passed down. Romans 6:23 – the wages of sin is death but the girt of

God is eternal life.

God imputed the sin of mankind and put it on his son – Jesus.

God so loved the world. He is the forgiveness of our sins. He was made to be sin for us. He was pure and perfect.

Now that we are born again we have the power to resist sin. Romans 8:9 – But you are not in the flesh but in the spirit.

The body is dead because of sin but the spirit is light because of righteousness. Our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. 2 Corinthians 4:7 – we have the power to resist any acts, temptations and desire. Just because we have grace should we continue to sin?

Do we continue living in sin?

Romans 6:2 – How long can you live in sin, when you are free?

1 Corinthians 6:9 – We are buried with Christ. All through the new testament we are reminded that we are new. Ephesians 4:2 – put off the old man. We have to put it away from us, in our mental state. We have to confront those things that cause us to sin. If not you will always regret your decisions.
Deny yourself and pick up your cross.

Following Jesus begins with elimination. He tells you about the cost before he tells you about the benefits.

Attitudes must change. Satan will drive you to the brink of destruction. He came to kill, steal and destroy.

If you have vain thoughts, you must cast them down. You can’t prevent thoughts but you have the power to deal. We need to be humble, submissive and obedient to the word of God.

I may not like it, it may be painful but I have to obey God’s word.

John 14:21 – Keep his commandments and he will show up in your life.

Remove yourself from the throne of opinion and stop being judgmental. Romans 14:10 – We shall all stand before the real judge. Everyone will give an account to God.

Resist sin and worship God in spirit and in truth.

Hebrews 10:25 – don’t forsake the assembly. The word comes down from God through a man or woman of God to talk to the people. Ezekiel 3:17 – everyone has a friend of neighbor who isn’t saved and you didn’t warn them.

Their blood is on your hands. We are to bear on another’s burdens to fulfil the law of Christ.

Start at home.

Revelation to a Relationship

Sermon Topic: Revelation to a Relationship

The things you’ll have to do. You have to change. You can’t continue doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Change is necessary but you must want change.

Our goal in life is to be spiritually fit. We must be able to discern between good and evil. You need the ability to be able to judge what’s before you – spiritual discernment – What’s general and what’s not.

Paul wrote in Philippians 1:9 – we increase in knowledge on the basis of who we are in Christ. Study to show yourself approved. We must stay in the word. When we stay in the word we can make Godly decisions.

No one is saved unless they repent and turn away from all sin.

Greater is HE that’s in me than he that’s in the world. The greater on is inside of you. To continue in a sinful lifestyle is to condemn God and nullify your faith. You can’t trust your feelings. Ephesians 4:22-23 – Change your thought life and your behavior, turn away from it and submit yourself to God.

Isaiah 55:7 – Call upon the Lord while he is near. He will have mercy on you.
We change either by wisdom or by crisis.

You don’t have to stay there. The Lord’s hands are not shortened that they cannot save. God knows all about you. God sees us wherever we are.

Any failure we have is the failure to receive and obey. Discipline seperates us from failure and success. Romans 13:13 – Don’t provide for the flesh.

Cast it down.

Pride is one reason why some can’t change. If you’re prideful you can’t change. You can’t change your life conditions if you are prideful. Set your heart on the things of God. Colossians 3:1 – Seek those things above not those below.

You don’t have to try to get more money. Seek those things above.

The reason we can’t change is fear. Some die afraid to change.

God is on my side. I choose not to fear. Fear is torment. God hasn’t given us the spirit of fear.

Rebellion – obey those who have authority over you. If you don’t it won’t be well.

He puts Kings up and takes Kings down.

Laziness – another reason why we don’t change is because we don’t feel like it.

Ignorance – Hosea 4:6 – my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.

Change is inevitable, growth is optional.

What you’re willing to walk away from determines what God gives you.

Psalm 141:3 – Change your speech. Set a watch over my mouth – guard my tongue.

1 Corinthians 15:33 – whatever that’s not faith is sin.

Ask yourself:

Will it damage my influence?

No matter if you believe it or not there’s always someone watching you. 1 Peter 2:11-12 – By your good works they see Christ in you.

Don’t be afraid of what people say! Don’t wear your feelings on your sleeve. You have on the whole armor of God.

Words can’t hurt you.

When you’re afraid, trust in the Lord.

Psalm 11:6 – What can man do to me? You are blessed. Saints are not easily provoked.
